How To Clean Coleman Grill Grates

Topic: How to clean Coleman Roadtrip grill burners
Posted By: Craig95005 on 08/19/14 09:16pm We have a Coleman Roadtrip LX grill and use it both on the road and at home. Good results, but the burners have gotten clogged and don't put out full propane. Any suggestions on cleaning them?

Every year or two that is what I also do.

Posted By: garysol on 08/20/14 06:45am I finally sold mine on Craigslist and purchased a Weber. The Coleman was a huge pain in the donkey to clean after every use. The Weber is much much easier for me to keep clean.

Posted By: NYCgrrl on 08/20/14 07:09am I use toothpicks/bamboo skewers/ thin gauge wire/metal skewers/baby bottle nipple brush and/or pipe cleaners to clean the..manifold(?)/nozzles of my white gas stove. Bet it would work for a clogged gas line as well. Canned air is your friend too.

I take my stove apart to clean it annually because well winters are boring here[emoticon].

Posted By: kmbelt on 08/20/14 07:11am I use a wire wheel on my drill to clean my stainless burner tube on my weber. Cleans the holes right up. Not sure if it would work on a roadtrip as i've never seen what the burner tubes look like.

Posted By: Ron3rd on 08/20/14 11:38am Weber user here, but what I do is wire brush it first, which can plug some holes. Then I clean the holes out with a small needle. Pressure washer would work too just fire the grill up afterwords to boil off the water that will get inside.

Posted By: Super_Dave on 08/20/14 12:36pm Anyway to add a deflector/diffuser plate so that the drippings don't directly hit the burner?

Posted By: Gene&Ginny on 08/20/14 08:35pm I have the old model and never had a problem with the burner itself. It is only about 8 years old.

Before a trip I line the drip pan with foil. When I get home I take out the foil and cold grease and throw it away.

Have both the Coleman Roadtrip and Weber Q. Both have the same problem. I use a wire brush to scrape off any excess and then get a needle and go through every hole.

Surely if you will never have a gas grill, then you will never have a dishwasher! lol

Posted By: BigBlockTank on 08/21/14 08:45pm THE SuperDave wet himself? How interesting.....I thought you could live up to your name. Now we all have our bubble bursted.

I am very glad I could be of some entertainment. I am a pit master from NC, and I do live in a house with indoor plumbing, so a dishwasher came with the joint. So, if I don't own a gas grill, I'm an animal and live in a cave? That's your juvenile way of thinking?
hahahaha

Posted By: tplife on 08/23/14 08:19pm We had a single-burner Roadtrip grill, a free gift, and the best thing we did after discovering it's cheesy quality is to place it in our earthquake gear for use as a cooking stove. We use a Weber Tabletop gas grill. Wire brush and needle works for us and that fixed my mother's Weber Q200 when it got clogged (they weren't running it for five or ten minutes to burn off the grease after finishing cooking).

Well******I thought I was. I wish there were the emoticons to put up like on another board I'm on. There are a lot and there is no doubt what your intention is there. I don't take squat on any computer board serious. This is all too much fun, and my reality escape. [emoticon]

That's what we do with ours. We line it all (except for the burners and grilling grates of course). For the cooking grates I use a Rubbermaid type of flat container (like the one that slide under beds). I fill it with water and some dish soap and let the grates soak over night. Next morning all it takes is hosing off and a little brushing. We have had our Roadtrip for two years now and it looks brand new!
