How To Open Excel 2010 Files In Separate Windows

This week we continue exploring new features in Excel 2013. This post is brought to you by Republic of chad Rothschiller, a Program Director in the Excel Team.

"How practise I open my workbooks in split windows?" This has been a common inquiry from many of our customers who desire to await at their workbooks adjacent, or spread them across more than than 1 monitor.

Good news: starting with Excel 2013, each of your workbooks opens in its own window, similar to Word and PowerPoint today. That means that each workbook has its own ribbon and top-level window frame that you can move and resize independent from your other open workbooks. This functionality can improve multitasking, visibility, and assay across workbooks.

In calculating terminology, this is called Single Document Interface (SDI). Versions of Excel before the 2013 release used Multiple Certificate Interface (MDI), where all workbook windows were contained inside a tiptop-level "primary" container window.

How to arrange your windows

Now that you lot have multiple windows, how should you lot adjust them? Well, there are enough of options and below are some favorites:

Smart Snapping: Grab the peak of the window, and elevate it to the summit, left, or right border of your screen, then allow go. The window automatically resize:

• Drag Left: Position on the left one-half of the screen
• Drag Right: Position on the correct half of the screen
• Elevate Tiptop: Fills the entire screen

Windows Taskbar: If you hold downwards the Shift Central and and so correct click the Excel icon on the Windows Job Bar you will meet options for arranging your open windows.
